What will be the average of the following set of scores ? 78, 69, 54, 21, 94, 48, 77
Answer: (c)
Required average
= ${78 + 69 + 54 + 21 + 94 + 48 + 77}/7$
= $441/7$ = 63
The mean of 5 numbers is 15. If one more number is the mean of the 6 numbers becomes 17. What is the included number?
Answer: (d)
Mean of 5 number = 15
Total = 15 × 5 = 75
Let number included = 75 + x
ATQ ${75 + x}/6 = 17$
x = 102 – 75 = 27
The age of a man is 4 times that of his son. 5 yrs ago, the man was nine times as old as his son was at that time. What is the present age of the man?

Shortcut method :
Son's age = ${5(9 - 1)}/(9 - 4)$ = 8 yrs
∴ Father's age = 4 × 8 = 32 yrs
